Cloud

Cloud services

Setting up, moving and running services on AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Cloudflare: hosting, databases, storage, sign-in and deployments.

Platforms we work on

  • AWS

Building and running software on Amazon Web Services, with the infrastructure written down as code.

  • Cloudflare

Building and running apps on Cloudflare's network: Workers for the code, D1 for the database, R2 for files, and the rest of the platform around them.

  • Microsoft Azure

Building and running web apps and APIs on Microsoft Azure, which often makes sense if your organisation already uses Microsoft 365.

  • Google Cloud

Building and running web apps, APIs and mobile back ends on Google Cloud.

  • Oracle Cloud

Running Oracle databases and applications on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, where they're supported best and licensing is simplest.

How we run it

  • Infrastructure as code

Infrastructure is written down as code, so it can be reviewed and rebuilt: Terraform and Terragrunt for MITS and myab, and Wrangler configuration for Workers.

  • Automated deployments

Changes go live from version control. myab, for example, builds, checks and deploys through GitHub Actions when changes reach its main branch.

  • Least privilege

Each service gets only the permissions it needs, secrets live in the platform's secret store, and nothing sensitive is kept in the code.

  • Costs you can see

We choose services that fit the size of the job, and set up billing alerts so a bill never arrives as a surprise.

Questions

Which platform should we use?

It depends on what you already have and what the software does. If you're already on Microsoft 365 and Azure, staying there often makes sense. For many web apps, Cloudflare Workers is simple and cheap to run. We'll explain the trade-offs rather than push one.

Can you take over hosting someone else set up?

Yes. We start by writing down what's running, where, and how it's deployed, before changing anything.
