Cloud platform
AWS
Building and running software on Amazon Web Services, with the infrastructure written down as code.
What we've built on AWS
MITS for PlanB Consulting
A server-rendered React front end and a GraphQL API on Lambda behind API Gateway, real-time updates over API Gateway WebSockets, data in DynamoDB, files in S3, sign-in with Cognito, and encryption keys in KMS.
Infrastructure as code
MITS's infrastructure, including its network, queues, logging and code signing, is defined in Terraform and managed with Terragrunt, and checked with Checkov.
What we do on AWS
Serverless applications
APIs and web apps on Lambda and API Gateway, which cost nothing when idle and scale with traffic.
Data and files
DynamoDB or a relational database where the data needs it, and S3 for files, with encryption and backups set up.
Sign-in
Cognito for user accounts, or your existing identity provider.
Moving off AWS
Where AWS is more than an app needs, we move it somewhere simpler. We moved HeySales from Lambda to Cloudflare Workers, and HelloSupermarket from AWS and DynamoDB to Workers and D1.

Questions
Can you review our existing AWS setup?
Yes. We start by writing down what's running and what it costs, then suggest changes in order of how much they save or protect.
