Software development

Bespoke software development

Software written around how your organisation works: customer-facing web apps, internal tools, APIs, and connections to the systems you already use.

What we build

  • Web applications

Complete products with accounts, roles and admin screens. HelloRestaurant gives diners online table booking, and gives restaurants one portal for bookings, tables, menus and orders.

  • Tools for running your organisation

Systems built around your own process. MITS lets PlanB Consulting's facilitators run crisis-management exercises from one dashboard while participants respond in theirs.

  • Real-time features

Updates that reach everyone at once. In MITS, facilitators' posts reach participants' screens over WebSockets while the exercise runs.

  • APIs and integrations

Connections to the services you already use. Our projects take payments through Stripe, read Gmail and Google Calendar, send email, and use OpenAI models to read photos of printed menus.

How a project runs

  1. Understand the job

We start with how the work is done today, who will use the software, and what has to be true on day one. Anything we're unsure about becomes a question, not an assumption.

  2. Build the smallest useful version

A first version real people can use, live on its proper hosting, rather than a demo that has to be rebuilt later.

  3. Release in small steps

Changes go live often and in small pieces, from version control, so each one is easy to check and easy to undo.

  4. Look after it

Once people rely on it, we keep it updated, secure and working, and keep improving it as the business changes.

Questions

Do you design the screens as well as write the code?

Yes. We design the pages and flows as part of the build, and test them with a keyboard and a screen reader, not only a mouse.

Who owns the code?

You do. It lives in a repository you control, with the hosting accounts in your name.

Can you work with our existing systems?

Usually, yes. If a system has an API, or even a reliable export, we can connect to it. We'll tell you early if something can't be done cleanly.
